Barham Park

On the western border of Brent, just west of Wembley, Barham Park has been offering an escape from the streets ever since the 18th century. Sudbury Lodge which once stood here, and was home to George Titus Barham, managing director of the Express Dairy Company, up until 1937 has now gone but the foundations can still be seen and the gardens survive. Barham Park Library is a Georgian house which had a luckier fate; starting out as Crabs House, it belonged to Mr Copland and then to Sir George Barham. Being on the route between Harrow School and London has meant that Sudbury was the first part of Wembley to grow significantly in the 19th century. Chiltern Line railway embankment runs along the northern edge of the park and the dense scrub provides a reservoir for plants and animals. At the opposite side, near the southern boundary is an attractive, formal walled garden with a small marshy pool nearby.
