The Cook Shop
At eight in the morning Andrew Lloyd opens The Cook Shop and starts selling pastries and croissants to Tufnell Park’s rush-hour commuters. By midday, the pastries have gone and the fresh, handmade sandwiches and soups are out on the shelves. When four o’clock comes around they’ve all gone too, and Andrew’s already cooking up supper. Sausages in a rich Guinness gravy, crispy-skinned confit of duck, lusciously gloopy lamb stews are all firm favourites on the menu, but Andrew’s not serving these in a restaurant, he’s prepping them for you to take home and reheat.
As I’m sure you can imagine, The Cook Shop is an inspiration and the lazy gourmet’s dream. No more pricking the cling-film lid and waiting for the ping before you can chow down whatever slop you’ve picked up at the supermarket. Instead, you’ve got freshly made food, lovingly cooked by someone who knows and cares about what they are doing, all made with carefully selected (and totally traceable) ingredients. All the suppliers are local, small producers known to Andrew and his menu will
always be seasonal, which means that you’re getting the best food, at the best value. Gastronomes and Gastro-nots will love this place: healthy, full-flavoured food doesn’t come any better. Very, very highly recommended.
