It's located in a modern hotel, which often gives restaurants a slightly sterile feel, but the dining room here has been carefully designed with booths and screens giving the impression of an intimate, comfortable space. Service is rapid, cheerful and knowledgeable. In the evening, a seasonal main menu offers updates on classics like pork and lentil soup, roast grouse, whitebait, and scallops with pork and mushy peas: novel, rich and unmistakeably English. There are separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, and prices are very much what you make of them - you can extremely cheaply here, or go for an expensive (but fairly priced) gourmet blowout. The all-you-can-eat sunday buffet is an exceptionally unhealthy and delicious way to spend the day of rest.
