Warwick Castle

Idyllically perched on the banks of the River Avon stands the imposing Warwick Castle – home to the Earls of Warwick, historically some of the most powerful noblemen in England.

As you cross the moat and enter within the walls of this formidable and remarkably well-preserved enclosure you join Queen Elizabeth I, King William III, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, George IV, and Edward VII in becoming one of the many visitors to this magnificent Medieval fortress.

Rich with over 1000 years of history, the castle boasts a haunted tower, suitably dark and dingy dungeons, a gargantuan Great Hall and magnificent State Rooms complete with extensive collections of furniture, tapestries, painting and armour.

Journey from Medieval England into the Victorian era as you enter the lovingly restored and still functioning Mill & Engine House which shot to the forefront of Victorian technology when it provided electricity to the whole castle in the late 19th century. Visitors to the castle are also invited to attend an incredibly life-like re-creation of a Victorian Royal Weekend Party - a specially designed and truly evocative exhibition capturing a poignant snapshot of a social gathering held in 1898.

The castle grounds are just as impressive and historically significant as the castle interior. A walk along the imposing ramparts offers a spectacular view of the idyllic grounds, including the shimmering conservatory, beautifully landscaped Peacock and Rose gardens and the meandering river that surround the castle’s unique island…

A short walk from the Victorian Mill, along the river and over a bridge, leads you to the castle’s final hidden secret – an island and onetime home in the 1890s to Japanese deer, flock of Chinese geese, an emu, assorted racoons, an ant bear and a baby elephant.
