St Bride Library

St Bride Library hotels title=This specialist library off Fleet Street houses 50,000 books and 3,500 periodicals, catalogues and directories on printing. From techniques to type faces, graphic design to typography, if it can be printed you'll find it here. If you're not sure what you're looking for, staff are happy to help. When it first opened in 1895, the library also house a printing school; the school eventually moved out and is now the London College of Communication. Not just a depository for academic research on medieval printing, the collection is kept up to date with the latest on digital typography and web design. Type is one of the highlights, with punches, matrices and founders' type from the seventeenth to the twentieth century. Early forms of printing including wood blocks, copper plate and lithographic stones show the various techniques used to reproduce images over the years. The library also runs an active events programme for and by people who are passionate about typography, graphic design and print.
