Officially opened in 2007 by Tessa Jowell, Minister for the Olympics, the Lee Valley Athletics Centre is the largest indoor and outdoor athletics facility serving London and South East England. Providing excellent award-winning facilities for athletes of all levels, the Lee Valley Athletics Centre is the home club to three of the four British track and field medallists from the Beijing Olympics. The Centre is open to the general public as well as elite athletes, and boasts the only indoor 200m six-lane track in the South of England. There are also 60m and 130m sprint straights, full jumps and throws facilities, permanent seating for 500 spectators both inside and out, and cutting-edge sports science and physiotherapy suites. Outdoor, there is a full eight-lane 400m track with field events facilities, seating and outdoor terrace. The Centre is part of the Lee Valley Leisure Complex, which cost £15m to build.
