Lionel Bart's smashing Victorian musical has had two previous London productions which both ran for over 100 performances, but there's every chance that this new version will be the best Oliver! ever. It's based on the Matthew Bourne-choreographed 1990s production and there's over a hundred performers and musicians, so the big set-piece songs which everyone remembers from the film (Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two) will be great fun. Director Rupert Goold won the Olivier Award for Best Director after a string of brilliantly atmospheric shows for the RSC and is just the man to recreate Victorian London on the vast stage of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Best of all is the chance to see Rowan Atkinson returning to his villainous roots after two decades of being Mr Bean, playing the master pickpocket Fagin.
Row A in the Balcony is restricted view by a handrail. Rows U to ZZ in the Stalls may have an obscured view due to the Dress Circle overhang.
Please note: Sickness and holiday permitting, Jodie Prenger performs on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Wednesday matinees, Friday evenings and both performances on Saturday.
Jodie Prenger will be on holiday from the 14th to the 19th September inclusive.
Leading Australian actress Tamsin Carroll (who played the role of Nancy in the 2002 Australian production of Oliver!) will play the role of Nancy on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Jodie Prenger is contracted to appear until the 12th December 2009.
Rowan Atkinson stars as Fagin until 18 July 2009. Omid Djalili will take over the role of Fagin after the 18th July and is contracted to appear until the 12th December 2009. |
