Visit Queens Gallery
Seize the chance to view close-up some rarely seen works of art from the Royal Collection - one of the finest art collections in the world.
Part of Buckingham Palace, the Queens Gallery was a conservatory until 1962 and is located on the site of the palaces former private chapel. It now proves a stunning home for these unique and changing exhibitions which are selected from some 9000 items held in trust by The Queen for the nation. The Royal Collection is particularly rich in the works of Old Masters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt. The exhibitions are usually themed and can last between 12 and 18 months.
Leonardo da Vinci: Anatomy (4th May - 7th October 2012)
This exhibition is the largest ever of Leonardo da Vincis studies of the human body. Leonardo has long been recognised as one of the great artists of the Renaissance, but he was also a pioneer in the understanding of human anatomy. He intended to publish his ground-breaking work in a treatise on anatomy, and had he done so his discoveries would have transformed European knowledge of the subject. But on Leonardos death in 1519 the drawings remained a mass of undigested material among his private papers and their significance was effectively lost to the world for almost 400 years. Today they are among the Royal Collections greatest treasures.
