Sherlock Holmes Museum

Don your deerstalker and grab your magnifying glass for the chance to uncover the secrets of the superb Victorian home of famed fictional sleuth Sherlock Holmes. According to author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Holmes and his trusty side-kick, Doctor Watson, lived at the 221b Baker Street lodging house between 1881-1904 and, from its famous study located on the 1st floor above a flight of 17 steps, solved many a grisly murder.

Built in 1815, the building exists today as a memorial and museum dedicated to the life and times of its famous inhabitants. The interior has been faithfully maintained and preserved exactly as described in the published tales and is listed by the Government to protect its architectural and cultural heritage. Wax models are also used to illustrate scenes from the stories.

Visitors can sit by the fireside in Mr Holmes’s armchair, explore his bedroom adjoining the study, examine his private papers and rifle through his possessions including his deerstalker, magnifying glass, calabash pipe, violin, chemistry equipment, notebook, Persian slippers and range of disguises.
