More about the Angel Building

Launched in late 2010, the Angel Building in Islington transformed from an under-used early 1980s commercial block into an award-winning office space, reinvented by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM). The building, on a prominent site at the corner of St. John Street and Pentonville Road, provides 263,000 square feet (24,433 sq m) of high end office space, with a cafe, specially commissioned works of art and large roof terraces. The clever design, which includes the re-use of the existing concrete frame, has earned the building several awards including the RIBA Award for Architecture and the British Council of Offices National Award for Refurbished and Recycled Workspace, both in 2011, the same year the project was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. The Design Council liked the building so much they moved in, citing the appeal of a modern space which, "reflects its broader role to champion excellent design in the built environment". Shops and restaurants within the Angel Building at street level include Jamie's Italian and Hummingbird Bakery.
