More about the Vendome

It's rather fitting that there are so many mirrors on the walls of Mayfair's new nightclub Vendome. Such is the beautiful but shallow and vain nature of the club's female clientele, the scope for continued reflection would allow these fake-tanned Wag-wannabes to ponder the question: "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in the land is fairest of all?" And the answer would hardly be threatening to these wicked queens, for Vendome is not the place to attract a Snow White. Seven dwarves, perhaps - but only if they're impeccably dressed and have a wallet big enough to keep the ladies entertained (what do you expect, this is Mayfair). The most likely reason for the abundance of mirrors is a vain attempt to make the place seem bigger. Formerly the site of the admittedly woeful Pangaea club, Vendome, for all its efforts, remains cramped. Yes, it looks good with its flash LED lighting and minimalist décor, and there is a well-stocked bar, private VIP area and a decent DJ booth. But the dancefloor - for all its colour - is tiny and the ridiculously narrow entrance creates a scrum between comers, goers and smokers. What's more, most people who don't work for a hedge fund or rely on a trust fund are not too enamoured with paying £18 for a glass of wine or splurging £400 for the luxury of sitting at a table. Still, if you want to meet a footballer or an ex Big Brother contestant or a guy who owns two Ferraris, this is the place for you. But be warned: Vendome is the kind of place where Ugly Betty would have to wait outside while her work colleagues partied. The club's PR people claim Vendome is the most "talked about" club in Mayfair. Shame they don't elaborate on the nature of those conversations.
