The Hotel Russell is a huge Victorian pile with stately art deco reception rooms and luxurious accommodation. The opulent public areas have recently undergone a £20 million refurbishment, restoring many original features from before World War II, and it is now a riot of marble, mirrors, mosaic and gilt. A perfect antidote to the blandly modern feel of many chain hotels.

“I have already recommended this hotel to several friends” one happy guest told us. It certainly makes a good first impression: “Loved the façade of this elaborate hotel” and “The outside appearance of the hotel is very grand and impressive” were just two comments on its exterior while another said the “marble decor was very impressive”. One guest found the photographs on the website misleading, “the standard bedrooms are not as nice as the advertised executive bedrooms” which “was a let down for us”. Depending on your room you may find the “Air conditioning extremely noisy” and some rooms are “the size of a rabbit hutch!” All in all, though, most people found it “a vast improvement on the Russell of a few years ago”, praising the “Period look and feel of the hotel” and “Proximity to [Euston] train station and London centre” making it “ideal for various West End destinations such as Covent Garden and Leicester Square”.

Excellent service received at front desk and in restaurant. Food quality was good. Temperature in dining room and some meeting rooms was a bit cold. Good location near tube.  |

If you arrive at Heathrow you jump on the Piccadilly Line, get off at Russell Square turn left when you exit the tube and the hotel is there. Walk to the end of the block, turn left and in a few steps you've reached the hotel entrance. The staff is very friendly and helpful whether it be finding a good place to eat or directions to attractions. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Russell in London. |

Most 4 * hotels in London provide guests with
free wifi.
This is a serious lack and would make me look
for another hotel which does.
They also need to sort out their breakfast room:
when you go to replenish your plate eveything is
cleared from the table, including your newspaper. |

The Hotel Russell eas a nice hotel, and I woulod recommend it, but I probably would not stay there again. Number 1 because there are so many fabulous hotels in London. But, customer service was not great there. Internet access was almost 0. The suite was beautiful and comfortable. The lobby comfortable. I chose the hotel mainly for for location-proximity to my daughter. But I felt the services, for the price, to be lacking. |
