Blood on Paper: The Art of the Book hotels title=The V & A takes this opportunity to reflect on books, or works that reference them, created by important artists of the past two centuries. The result is a collection of works by Matisse, Miró and Picasso as well as Anthony Caro, Francis Bacon and Damien Hirst. Through the works assembled, many from the National Art Library - the largest collection of artists' books in the UK - the passion on the pages is palpable. A highlight is a new monumental book by German painter Anselm Kiefer, whose works have been seen at the White Cube and Royal Academy of Arts courtyard, which greets visitors on entry to the show. There's no actual gore in 'Blood on Paper' - but Anish Kapoor's Wound (2005) comes close. Perfectly marrying the themes of 'blood' and 'book', the paper sculpture inflicts a wound shape into a book, slicing through the sheets of paper.
