The first night I stayed at The Langham , the room was utterly dark and old . In the morning the ceiling was leaking and soaked my sons shoe . I moved to a bigger room with additional 40£ (bad hospitality service ) . Had I stayed in other 5 starred hotel, and the room was leaking , The upgrade would have been at their cost. Anyway I didnt fuss and paid the upgrade . The new room was just the same with a slightly different look because it was a little bit newer but still small . Again I didnt fuss . Until the next day I realized that the wooden floor didnt get mopped because the flakes from my croissant were still all over the place . The very ill thing is that the towels are greyish in color and had holes in it . The same thing happened to my sister's towels on the other room. A five started hotel should have clean towels and definitely Not with holes . The hotel manager Ms Susan called me and said that "How can i make your stay more convenient? " I replied maybe by moving us to other room thats cleaner and newer. My friend just checked in and got upgraded to a very new wing (2 months old) and she just paid corporate rate of £180 . My friend , in fact , was offered 2 other new rooms at the new wings at the same length of time like mine . Mrs Susan , said that there are no rooms abailable at all at the new wings. I just dont get the hospitality part in this 5 star hotel . I didnt get even a compliment of vouchers or anything during my stay (13 nights ) , knowing that they had given me foul services during my stay . I think there should be a standard to a 5 star hotel . This by far is the worse 5 star hotel . Both service and room .

My wife and I got engaged in London. I popped the question in our our suite at the Langham. Since then, we always stay here when traveling to London. The staff is very helpful and cheerful. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. The location is great for everything. This is one of my favorite luxury hotels in the world.

My 10 year old daughter and I stayed at the Langham on saturday night as a girls treat whilst my husband and sons were on a camping night. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. We had a lovely swim in the pool on sunday morning before a delicious breakfast at the Roux restaurant. Very comfortable bed. A perfect location for shopping and sightseeing in the west end.

A lovely hotel right in the middle of London's shopping center just a few yards from Oxford circus. You can't get closer than that. The rooms were spacious and the bed were super fine. The Service were excellent. We had our breakfast both in our room and in the restaurant, either way it was super good and a lot of choices that can suit every ones taste.
Do try Langham London's Afternoon tea, you will not be disappointed, but prepare yourself for a long afternoon walk. you will need it after eating all the lovely Finger toasts, scones with clotted cream and the super cute cakes. Try Langham blend tea. that was really good.
We also used the Spa, gym, saunas, bubble bath and swimming pool, everything to our satisfaction, as we stayed in January we preferred the warm bubble bath but all of them were very good. We found the Langham through British Airways as we were booking the flight, that worked perfectly. I do recommend the Langham London. if you have the opportunity, try it. Annika

When I saw the £400+ prices for a room at the Langham on tripadvisor, I googled and got a B&B room for £256 from low cost holidays travel agency online. I wrote the hotel via its online contact page to let them know we had chosen the Langham to celebrate our (double digit) wedding anniversary and hoped for a complimentary upgrade (if available). They wrote back to say they couldn't confirm but would make our stay memorable and they delivered in spades.
I arrived before the rush for check in at 3 pm and was greeted by Agnieska at reception with a big smile and welcome. She informed me they had received my message, congratulated me on my wedding anniversary and were delighted to be able to upgrade our room! She informed us that English breakfast was included and starts at 7 am and we could take in either restaurant or have in our room for a £5 tray charge. As tomorrow was a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised they had amended their breakfast hours to an earlier start to accommodate travellers. We had a morning train to catch too.
The room was splendid as was being greeted by a card and gift wrapped box of chocolates on the desk! Really touching. The room had the usual amenities, complimentary tea and coffee, hairdryer, etc. What stood out were the huge bottles of shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, bath wash, soap bars, etc. No skimping for 5 star guests! Sadly no complimentary water bottles. The mini bar charged £3 for a soft drink and £2.50 for water.
We set them to task to test their 5 star concierge service. My husband asked housekeeping if they could sew a missing button on his morning suit trousers. The catch was he had lost the button! The trousers were picked up and they managed to find a replacement button, sew and return within 2 hours for only £4! They passed my 'Maid in Manhattan' 5 star hotel test.
I explored the spa area which is a loooooong walk and 2 lifts away from the hotel rooms. The salt sauna and hot jacuzzi were fabulous! The ladies quarters also had a separate sauna but the steam room was out of commission. The changing room had everything from ample robes, towels, swimming clothes spinning drier, showers, hairdryer, straightener on request, lockers that one picked a code to close, etc.
We perused the in room dining menu and were pleasantly surprised to read they offered oysters and lobster linguine! The food arrived 30 minutes later (in room dining did not tell us how long the order would take...would suggest they routinely let the hotel guest know) and was well laid out on a tablecloth laden trolley. The oysters were splendid even out of season. Alas the linguine pasta was overcooked and stuck together in clumps so was left uneaten. The lobster pieces were fine. The salmon teriyake was fine.
We then turned our attention to the in room movie which did not work and we wasted 1 hour and 10 minutes waiting for the engineer and then working with the engineer trying to get the tv to play the movie. Rather ruined our evening until we made a decision to stop this ridiculous way to spend our one anniversary night. We rang reception and told them we had given up trying to work with their technician to get the movie to start playing and to take off the in room movie charge. I would suggest that they could have offered us any other movie on their tv system that was working as a complimentary gesture? We were offered nothing for our evening of inconvenience working with their engineer.
Spent the evening watching regular television instead...
As we were on the B&B rate, we rang reception to check to see if we could have the Japanese breakfast instead in the morning and they confirmed that would be fine and to write this on the in room breakfast request card.
The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the room very quiet. Breakfast arrived on time, on a white tablecloth trolley and was delicious.
We managed to enjoy the sauna again at 8:30 am (first to arrive) and swimming pool. The sauna facilities really are 5 star except there was a charge for bottled water of £2.50 and only the fruit was complimentary. I would suggest a water machine as clients using the sauna and hot jacuzzi are likely to overheat and get dehydrated.
Check out could have been smoother. We were erroneously charged for the Japanese breakfasts and had to ask for this to be removed. I brought up the overcooked linguine and they summoned the assistant manager who approved removal of this dinner dish from the bill.
For all the hiccups, the hotel tried their best to attend to the problems in a professional manner and fix to the best of their abilities, which gives them a 5 star rating in my book. There was a sense of disappointment on their part that they had not been able to give a 100% satisfaction to their guest and that was much appreciated and we were offered a complimentary upgrade on our next stay by the assistant manager.
All in all they still get 5 stars for effort, for decor, for a fabulous spa, for a great location near John Lewis, for a splendid room and amenities, for the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, for a restful night's sleep, for extra effort at repairing a trouser button, and for a customer service attittude that is 99% customer oriented. They lost 1% for offering us no compensation for a movie system that was faulty and had wasted 70 minutes of our celebratory evening. Hope they fix this in room 528 for the next romantic couple.
