Henley House is a fitting name for this chocolate-box hotel – its calm, pleasant environment evoking images of the Oxfordshire town. Wake up to breakfast in the bright conservatory dotted with potted flowers, wind down in an armchair surrounded by the mahogany panelling and cluttered bookcases of the residents' lounge. Babylon at the Roof Gardens
Kensington Roof Gardens, W8
(Modern European Cuisine)
About a one minute walk away of High Street Kensington Tube

 |
 |
Richard Branson's rooftop restaurant is a favourite with the glam girls of Kensington, who can be seen at all hours sipping cocktails in the Spanish garden, or picking at salads on the terrace, and enjoying stunning views of West London (and of the gents' toilets, just visible if you peek through the waterfall in the ladies'). It's a glitzy spot, with lots of fiddly, sexy little things on the menu, but sturdier types are catered for too, with meat-heavy grills, barbecues and excellent fresh fish. In winter a fire and cosy booths make Babylon a soothing spot, but it is at its best on the hottest summer nights, when you can eat under the stars in a lush garden a hundred feet above the Capital.
NOTES:
Booking advised.
Separate room for parties.
Tables on patio.

Wagamama
26 Kensington High Street, W8
(South East Asian Cuisine)
4 minute walk to the North East of High Street Kensington Tube
(260 metres)

Taking inspiration from Japanese ramman-noodle bars, Wagamama is the ultimate in high-quality, fast food. Huge bowls of steaming, soupy noodles, chicken dumplings with a chilli-soy dipping sauce, grilled prawns in a red-pepper sauce - food doesn't get much better than this: full flavoured, well balanced and, above all, healthy.
The ethos behind Wagamama is simple food, simply cooked and quickly served. Some might find it hard getting used to the informality of the serving system - it's common for food to arrive at different times - but the friendly staff encourage you not to stand on ceremony and slurp those noodles up as soon as they come.
This reviewer's particular favourite Wagamama meal is Chilli-Beef Raman accompanied by the Chicken Gyoza. But if that doesn't float your taste buds' boat I'm sure something on the vast and eclectic menu will. Here at LondonTown.com we feel it important to mention the wonderful juices, freshly made at the restaurant. When my colleague and I returned to the office after a couple of these concotions, we survived the rest of our hectic LondonTown.com day without coffee, feeling almost as good as we looked.
So, if you're after lunch, dinner or supper, head to Wagamama's for a noodle-slurping, rice chomping food fest that will hurt neither your wallet nor your waistline.

American import Donna Egan has brought her addictive brand of baking from California to London, sharing her love of sweet things and American ingredients. Best eaten fresh, her wonderfully moist cupcakes are made with indulgent ingredients like Callebaut Belgian chocolate, Nielsen-Massey vanilla and Oreo cookies. Tempting choices of cookies'n'cream, banoffee and chocolate peanut butter. The cakes come topped with generous helpings of buttercream and are beautifully decorated and presented - buy a 12-cupcake box and it comes in its own rope-handled bag.

Small, pretty park in west London.
Pretty, petit Holland Park is the ideal location for those wanting to escape the clamour of the city but who don't want to travel too far out of the centre. Tucked away in one of London's most elegant districts, the park offers small, cosy grassy knolls, cooling woodland glades, wild ponds, pavilions, an open expanse for games and general frolicking, playgrounds for older and younger children and a cafe. Small, but perfectly formed, this lovely park is perfect for an intimate picnic or romantic stroll. There are beautiful woodland trails, manicured lawns and formal gardens, the Kyoto Japanese Garden with its resident Coi, and a fantastic ice cream stand in the middle. Opened in 1952, Holland Park used to be a private estate belonging to the Earl of Holland. During the 19th century the Holland House attracted high profile visitors from various walks of life, from the politician, Lord Palmerston, to the poet, Lord Byron. The former ballroom of Holland House is now the stylish Belvedere restaurant, while the orangery and ice house host temporary exhibitions. In the summer open-air opera and theatre concerts are held in the grounds. Look out for peacocks roaming the grounds.
Best for:
Peacocks, ponds and pavilions, Coi carpa and concerts.
Did you know?
Sheridan, Sir Walter Scott, Lord Byron, Wordsworth and Dickens all visited Holland House.

All Star Lanes, Bayswater

A Vogue shoot with hot model Daisy Lowe just goes to show the height of hip that All Star Lanes has reached. This fun bowling alley and restaurant is a great place for a gang of you to spend a memorable night out trying to out-do each other. The atmosphere is really buzzing on Friday and Saturday nights with resident guest DJs mixing the tunes and upping the tempo from 9pm through till midnight. As you'd expect at such an all-American entertainment, there's a diner serving burgers and beers. Booking a lane is recommended but not essential - there are always at least two waiting list lanes which are on a first come first serve basis - and when booking you can have up to six people (estimate time: 10 mins per person per game) or opt for a table in the diner. Bowling is no longer a sport to be embarrassed about - Vogue says so so it must be true. And it's backed up by the fact that this is the second of three All Star Lanes to open in London - the others being in Bloomsbury and Brick Lane.

Whole Foods Market
The Barkers Building, W8
(Food and Drink Shops)
3 minute walk to the North East of High Street Kensington Tube
(210 metres)
|
 |
 |
The Barkers Building on Kensington High Street used to house an entire department store so you can imagine how much fresh, good-for-you food you can fit into this 80,000 square foot site. Whole Foods Market is a big hit in the US and has been cleverly canvassing its UK audience for some time, advertising on the brown paper bags that organic-conscious shoppers take away from Fresh and Wild (which they have also owned since 2004). While they do prioritise organic produce, not all of it can be categorized as such. Where organic isn't possible, the emphasis is on locally sourced foods that are fresh, wholesome and healthy; this means that all foods are free from artificial preservatives, colours, flavours, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats. The emphasis here is on choice with more than 100 different olive oils, 40 types of sausage and 50 fresh juices for starters. There's an upstairs market where you can choose from 11 different food venues: oven-baked pizza, dim sum, sushi, a trattoria and a juice bar serve freshly prepared food rustled up by a team of 40 chefs. It's not just a food shop, you can also get holistic treatments, homeopathic remedies and practise some yoga here. If the trend for all things organic continues at its current level this vast temple to healthy living is sure to be a huge success and we wouldn't be surprised if Whole Foods Markets began cropping up all over the capital.

Ottolenghi

(Delicatessens)
4 minute walk to the North West of High Street Kensington Tube
(260 metres)

 |
This southern Mediterranean deli has offers chic all-white decor, and an exotic cuisine, that mixes a dash of Italy and a spot of North Africa with a selection of Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern dishes. Takeaway options include salads, dips and superb patisserie. Dreamt up by Yotam Ottolenghi who came from Israel with no experience in the industry. His training began at the pastry department at The Capital, then under Rowley Leigh and next at Baker and Spice in Chelsea. Four years on, he teamed with Noam Bar, Sami Tamimi and Jim Webb to set up Ottolenghi in 2002. A column in the Saturday 'Guardian', a cookbook and classes at Leiths are all signs of their success. Renowned for its excellent breakfasts - voted "the finest in town" by The Observer Food Monthly.

North End Road Market
North End Road Market, SW6
27 minute walk to the South West of High Street Kensington Tube
(3.04 miles)
|
 |
 |
This event starts on Monday 8th February 2010 and ends on Saturday 13th February 2010
North End Road Market is a taste of real London - a little rough around the edges, it's true, but that only adds to the appeal of this six-days-a-week market which has been going since the 1880s. It's also a far cheaper option than the nearby supermarkets. The stalls lining the full length of the street sell everything from lipstick to batteries but the majority are fresh fruit and veg sellers with a good fishmonger, olive stall and two cheese specialists. The cheese stall at the north end of the market, near the junction with Lillie Road, is the cheaper of the two; the other while more expensive offers a better selection. For fresh meat Dickenson's, a permanent butchers on the street, is hard to beat but you'll have to be prepared to join the queue.
