V and AThe Victoria and Albert Museum is the jewel in the crown of London's famous South Kensington cultural area.
A stone's throw from Hyde Park, Harrods and the shopping heart of Knightsbridge, the V&A is a "must-see" on every London itinerary.
The V&A is a London institution: founded in the 1850s, it now boasts the greatest and most diverse collection of decorative art and design in the world, spanning all continents and dating from 3000BC to the present day.

Highlights of the V&A
include the dazzling Dress Collection (a source of inspiration for contemporary fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano); the world-famous Cast Courts (with its larger-than-life cast of Michelangelo's "David"); and over seven miles of gallery space devoted to photography, furniture, silver, ceramics, glass, painting and sculpture. Don't miss the new British Galleries, 15 beautifully-refurbished rooms telling the story of British design from 1500 to 1900 (opens 22 November 2001).

Internationally-celebrated Seattle glass artist Dale Chihuly's work is a by-word for all that is spectacular and exciting in contemporary glass. Drawing on the tradition of Venetian glass, rich colours and extravagant shapes compliment organic subtlety and visual and textural refinement. This is the first full-scale exhibition by Chihuly to be held in this country, and offers the opportunity to see his extraordinary work as an installation in the beautiful setting of the V&A galleries and gardens. Sponsored by JPMorgan.
Out of Japan
20 September 2001 - 3 February 2002

This is a rare opportunity to see work by three major photographers working in Japan in the 1860s, the 1970s and the present day. Images by Felice Beato, Masahisa Fukase and Naoya Hatakeyama illustrate photography in Japan from fascinating and evocative nineteenth-century portraits to journeys beneath present-day Tokyo. A major part of the V&A's contribution to Japan 2001.

Over 200 scintillating gem-set head ornaments will include the most majestic tiaras from British and European Royal families. Court diadems made by Garrards, Fabergé, Cartier and Boucheron will contrast with those made today by Vivienne Westwood, David Linley and Philip Treacy in acrylic, feathers and wood. Earth and Fire is an unprecedented exhibition which examines the full range of Italian terracotta sculpture between 1400 and 1800, including works by Ghiberti, Donatello, Bernini and Canova.
