Forgotten Masters: Indian Painting For The East India CompanyBelatedly recognising the Indian artists commissioned by East India Company officials in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the Wallace Collection presents Forgotten Masters: Painting for the East India Company. Writer and historian William Dalrymple curates the exhibition which honours historically overlooked artists tasked with recording the beauty of the natural world and India's rich culture, history and ecological biodiversity. The exhibition explores the four main centres of what has traditionally been described as 'Company School' painting including Calcutta and Delhi. These exquisite paintings put names to the paintings, crediting Indian artists largely unknown in the West.
