Map and travel experts since 1853, Stanfords has been trading in the Covent Garden area since the nineteenth century and in 2019 moved from Long Acre, where it had been situated for more than 100 years, to nearby Mercer Walk. Intrepid explorers should set their coordinates here for the best selection of maps and travel books. Set up by Edward Stanford, this cool temple to travel stocks a massive range of maps, books and travel related goods. Famous trailblazers who have navigated their way through these doors include David Livingstone, Scott of the Antarctic, Ernest Shackleton, Florence Nightingale, Ranulph Fiennes, Bill Bryson and Michael Palin. Summering in Uzbekistan? Touring Korea on a bicycle? Head here first. Stanfords should be the first stop on any journey.
