A major permanent gallery on the second floor of the Science Museum, open on 25th October 2014, Information Age: Six Networks That Changed Our World is the biggest and most ambitious gallery within the museum and features over 800 objects. Divided into six zones, each representing a different information and communication technology network, Information Age includes many remarkable objects and tells the stories behind them. Here you'll find Thomson's original galvanometer used to receive the first telegraph messages sent across the Atlantic between President Buchanan and Queen Victoria in 1858; the original Marconi radio transmitter that made the first public broadcast in 1922 with the famous words 'This is 2LO calling', announcing the arrival of the BBC and the birth of British broadcasting; and two of the world's fastest supercomputers from the 1960s.
