Open School East opens in September 2013.
Open School East is an art school and communal space, commissioned and funded by the Barbican and Create London to help artists, local residents and neighbourhood organisations share knowledge and skills. When it opens in September 2013 in The Rose Lipman Building Open School East will be a year-long studio-based study programme; a shared space for activities devised by and with neighbourhood groups and individuals; and a public events programme. The project is co-founded by French-born curator Anna Colin, Sarah McCrory, Laurence Taylor and Sam Thorne. Open School East's inaugural public event on Thursday 26th September, from 2pm to 5pm, will be a roundtable discussion among invited artists, curators and practitioners who are invested in developing alternative forms of education - artistic and otherwise.
