New York art gallery Pace opens its second London space at 6 Burlington Gardens on 4th October 2012, a 9,000 square foot space in the presitgious west wing of the Burlington Gardens building in Mayfair, next to and owned by the Royal Academy of Arts. Pace specializes in modern and contemporary art, representing a high calibre of talent that includes Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, James Turrell and Bridget Riley. The gallery has seven locations worldwide spread between New York, Beijing and London and represents more than 60 artists including the estate of Mark Rothko who is part of the inaugural exhibition, Rothko/Sugimoto: Dark Paintings and Seascapes, which juxtaposes Rothko's late black and grey paintings with works by renowned Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. Pace London occupies one of the most significant high Victorian buildings in central London, designed by Sir James Pennethorne for the University of London in the 1860s, it has been renovated by architect and Royal Academician Sir David Chipperfield. Both Pace London galleries - 6 Burlington Gardens and Pace London's existing location at 6-10 Lexington Street in Soho - are overseen by Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst.
