Originally designed by Lewis Cubitt and opened on 17th May 1854, The Great Northern Hotel in King's Cross, one of the first examples of the great railway hotels, is the oldest purpose built hotel in London - original features which were restored for its 2013 reopening include the facade, windows, lead-lined gutters, cast iron grilles and drainpipes. During a 12-year closure - to make way for the Channel Tunnel rail link and improvements to Kings Cross and St Pancras Station - the 19th century Grade II listed hotel underwent a makeover by Dexter Moren Associates and emerged as a 91-bedroom luxury boutique hotel with a bar and restaurant. The property provides complimentary entertainment comprising of fast WiFi access throughout the building, a movie library with a combination of classic and new releases, 40 audio books, and six curated playlists by top DJs. Each floor also boasts a pantry, where guests can help themselves to a retro treat or homemade cake while browsing the book collection and news of the day. Plum + Spilt Milk is the 90-cover first floor restaurant and bar offering all day dining and a brasserie style menu, while the Great Northern Bar on the ground floor opens out onto the western concourse - the crowning glory of the new £550 million King's Cross Station. From here, guests have direct access to train station and to St Pancras International beyond - where the Eurostar links London to Paris, Lille and Brussels.
