Following a three-year closure due to the Thameslink building works, the Wheatsheaf pub next to Borough Market reopened in December 2012. Drinkers who mourned the loss of this much loved gem at the heart of Stoney Street can drink its award winning ales and craft beers once again. Originally built in 1772, the early Victorian pub owned by Young & Co's Brewery combines traditional features - the wooden panelling and fireplace - with contemporary touches like cow hides. Outside, the campervan kitchen offers street food with imaginatively named delights like 'Sticky English Whiskey Ribs', 'Hay Box Ham' and 'Cyder Spit Chicken', served in retro blue rimmed enamel tins. It's a pub filled with bustle, banter and bric-a-brac, a true market pub as befits its Borough location. They also take advantage of their close proximity to London Bridge and the railway tracks - their garden has a roof, courtesy of Network Rail, and they have a live departure board so you won't miss your train which enjoying a pint.
