Revamped in 2015, the Marksman is a proper east London pub that combines quality dining with boozing. The bar, stocked with local beers such as the Bethnal Blonde, is still propped up by locals, but there's also a tempting new menu that will appeal to locals and foodies alike. The food is inspired by London's rich culinary history, focusing on the best of British seasonal food and drinks. Feast on braised shoulder of lamb with mint sauce, chicken and girolle pie, duck curry with sourdough roti and tomato chutney, and treacle cured Tamworth belly with white cabbage and beer mustard. For pudding, opt for the brown butter and honey, which, according to Jay Rayner, has a "deep, buttery caramel filling that has the wobble and softness of a newborn's thigh".
