Bold, strong and stylish, Dona is a basement Mezcal bar popping up in Clapton where the women are in charge. Named after the feminine form of 'Don', the head honchos here are Mezcal enthusiast Thea Cumming, founder of Dangerous Don, and Lucie Massey, the brains behind Cuppa Gumbo and Slap Ya Papa. Friends for years, the pair previously produced London Mezcal Week. I nspired by the vibrancy of Mexico and the sexiness of a 1920s Harlem jazz club, the bar features plush velvet banquet-style seating, atmospheric low lighting and candles, with a crimson, scarlet and pink palette. From Wednesday to Saturday high quality Mezcal cocktails are served, using the agave-based spirit to make the Fiorella (Dangerous Don Mezcal, Virtuous Ginger, Supasawa, Agave, Lime Wheel and Coffee Beans) and the Dona (Mezcal, Martini Ambrato and Campari). During the day, bands and musical collectives can jam here and there's live music every night. Artists featured include jazz musicians Rachel Cohen, Sarah Tandy and Will Barry to name a few.
