The arthouse Renoir Cinema underwent a major refurbishment in 2015 by The Curzon Cinema Group. Reopening as the Curzon Bloomsbury, the new name pays homage to its original name the Bloomsbury Cinema, which it opened as in 1972. The refurb sees the cinema expand from a two screen to a six screen as well as introducing state-of-the-art technology and design by Takero Shimazaki, who is responsible for the design of Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck. Despite the upgrades, however, Curzon has promised that the cinema will stay true to its heritage and won't be going down the blockbuster route - it will even have a Bertha DocHouse screen dedicated to documentaries.
