The Royal Artillery Barrracks are not open to the public. But you can learn about the history of the Gunners at Firepower, The Royal Artillery Museum, a 15 minute walk from here.
The London port of Woolwich has a long military history, and so it was highly apt that the Royal Artillery Barracks should host the Olympic shooting events for London 2012. Located on the edge of Woolwich Common and close by to Greenwich Park, the historic Barracks were built in 1776 and boast the country's longest Georgian facade. For the Shooting competitions four temporary indoor ranges for Pistol and Rifle events were built together with outdoor shotgun ranges for Trap and Skeet events - as well as a 62ft-high safety screen. A month later, at the Paralympics, the Royal Artillery Barracks hosted 12 Shooting events as well as six days of Paralympic Archery, all in 2012.
