Apostrophe are a fast expanding chain of boulangerie / patisseries with a reputation for superb coffee which is their main stock in trade. Proprietor Amir Chen is a coffee evangelist, justly proud of his Marzocco machines and skilled staff - Apostrophe is a coffee boutique rather than a faceless chain.
It is heartening to see Apostrophe prospering without deviating from high standards. The coffee really is first rate and the sandwiches are both inventive and wonderfully fresh - nothing is kept overnight.
A fast-service chain with exacting standards, choice ingredients and long-serving staff? We like. Even better news for London is the prices - we were frankly surprised to find that coffee, croissants and sandwiches all weigh in at slightly cheaper than Starbucks... and about a hundred times better.
