An authentic Japanese sushi bar just a few steps off Oxford Circus. Despite the location Chisou draws little on the tourist trade but remains popular with business men, Asian foodies and even celebrity blogger Gwyneth Paltrow who raves about their light noodle soups and salads. Sit at the bar and watch your lunch sizzle or take a seat at a more private table. The decor here is modern and relaxed and the service is friendly but not overwhelming. Chisou has a strong selection of sake laid out with clear descriptions, and the recommendations are reliable here as the owner was a Sake Sommelier 2006-2007 finalist in Tokyo. You don't need to be a connoisseur of Japanese cuisine to pick the right dish, the menu is easy to order from and offers lots of mixed sharing platters to help you taste a bit of everything. Many of the dishes are an assortment of the chef's choice of the best fish and seafood that day. Possibly not the most affordable option but good Sushi bars aren't easy to come by in such a central location.
