Voted "Top British traditional restaurant in London 2008" by Zagat, the appeal of this cosy local brasserie in Notting Hill is the feeling of familiarity you get after a couple of visits. The restaurant's success is very much down to the large personality of owner and chef Ffiona who welcomes returning visitors like old friends. The loyalty of returning diners has built up over the years thanks to the relaxed atmosphere - for example, they'd prefer to turn customers away than rush diners off their table; it's a lesson many London restaurants would do well to learn. The intimate size of the venue, candle lighting and emphasis on traditional cuisine makes this a wonderfully romantic place for a dinner for two, it also boasts a decent wine list, all of which comes very reasonably priced. But the best part of an evening at Ffiona's is the simplicity of the food and decor with Ffiona, herself, adding plenty of colour to the experience. It's a world away from the faceless chain restaurants that are becoming increasingly hard to avoid on London's high streets. The restaurant also serves an Anglo-American brunch at weekends.
