An espresso bar, cocktail bar and recording studio in one circular stand-alone building on the edge of Old Street Roundabout, Shoreditch Grind is frequently name checked for serving the best flat white in London. Launched in 2011 by DJ and musician Kaz James and entrepreneur David Abrahamovitch, Shoreditch Grind was part of an Australian-led revolution of London's coffee shops - Kaz had grown up drinking coffee in his native Melbourne and searched for the equivalent punchy but smooth Espresso blend after relocating to London. Finding it difficult to re-create the taste from back home, they started working with a small boutique roaster to create an exclusive custom blend, and the Shoreditch Grind House Espresso Blend was born. They later added a recording studio upstairs in the two-storey 'roundhouse' building, previously a mobile phone shop run by David's father in the 90s, which has been a home from home for DJs and recording artists including Chromeo, Sam Smith, Pixie Lott, Jungle and Tinie Tempah.
