The area surrounding King's Cross Railway Station has, in the past, had a reputation as a red light district after dark. But with the arrival of the Eurostar at the nearby St Pancras International and Network Rail's £550m, eight-year revamp, completed in 2013, the neighbourhood is unrecognisable. The centrepiece of the station is the concourse, featuring a wave-like 985-ton steel roof designed by British architects John McAslan + Partners Lewis which has been added to Cubitt's mainline terminus. The station is also home to the now legendary platform 9 and three quarters made famous by J.K Rowling's Harry Potter books. There aren't actually tracks between platforms 9 and 10 at King's Cross, but that doesn't stop hoards of Harry fans taking snaps of the place where the imaginary platform is meant to be, along with a trolley that looks as if it has disappeared through the wall. X could mark the spot for Boadicea as rumour has it that she is buried beneath platform 8 and her ghost haunts the underground passages.
Regular train services depart King's Cross for destinations in the Northeast and Scotland.
