The residential district of Maida Vale and Warwick Avenue is the main presence in W9, falling between Kilburn and St John's Wood. The area is mainly quite affluent, consisting of many large Victorian and Edwardian blocks of mansion flats. The area is characterised by wide tree-lined avenues, large communal gardens and red-brick mansion blocks, not to forget the picturesque Little Venice, the junction between Regent's Canal and the Paddington arm of the Grand Union Canal. Maida Vale is home to some of the BBC's radio studios. The building on Delaware Road is in fact one of the BBC's earliest locations, pre-dating Broadcasting House in White City, and was the centre of the BBC radio news service during the Second World War. There are seven music and radio drama studios and some were famously home to John Peel's BBC Radio 1 Peel Sessions. Staying on the music theme, the area is also a haven for British rock royalty with names such as Jarvis Cocker, Robert Smith and Paul Weller all thought to live nearby. More
